M62 has a TDC mark stamped on the timing cover, cut the old one off the M60, align with the TDC mark on the M62 cover, measure radius from the crank and it should be perfect.

I will probably bolt mine on using a piece of L shaped aluminium as I don't want to risk trashing the M62 timing cover by welding it. In fact I may make it adjustable so one can vary the timing settings to optimise for the M62 camshafts - I'm still looking for that elusive timing curve data for the M60/2 to compare the two to see if it's even nescessary.

Got the M62 apart now, time to send parts off for cleaning. They really did simplify the valve gear and chains, not as strong, but lighter and less complex and it's proved it's reliability for many years now. The heads have thicker port walls than the M60 so maybe I can do more porting on the exhaust side this time. Don't bother with the inlets as they are straight through and a work of art already.
