WA? This helps for car details as the country can make a difference.

Then we need to know... who are these thieves?! I think it is important to list it here because whether it is electric or viscous those prices are absolutely ridiculous... even for Canada, the rip off capital of BMW repair.
FYI their cost on the fan if it is electric is $160US. Install is all of 40 minutes. So $450 before taxes for the complete repair is what you should expect at the high limit.
Same for viscous. Their cost on the clutch is just over $50. Install about 30 minutes. So $250 for the complete job.

If the fan is attached to the engine it is a clutch fan.
If it is attached to the radiator then it is electric.

So open the hood and tell me what kind of fan you have.
