I doubt the fuel pump failed but this may be a bargaining point for you... it is probably the CPS. And if not the other solutions are simple and cheap.
Never accept rust. Once you see rust it is everywhere you cannot see. The floors for instance are double panelled so any tiny hole spells doom.
