Thanks for your advice. It sems to be the cd NAV afterall. The guarantee expired one month ago (ouch). I am hoping BMW Canada will come through and goodwill it or at least part of it. We'll see how it works out. I never mind having to fix things as they get older, but, when I feel they are exhorbitantly priced (in Canada the CD nav is $2900 and the DVD nav is $3900) for something that seems to be inherently flawed, then I have an issue. All manufacturers should charge a more reasonable price for something that continuously fails and forces the consumer to repeatedly replace it. My two cents.

If I update to the DVD, it seems I need to update the software too?
