First off, it was great meeting everyone today. What a great group of guys! It was especially cool that guys without projects showed up too...like dcrane and son, farhod's cousin, kromdom, Robert, Daniel and 04shdd (dangit, I forgot your name too!). Even Henry (super nice guy, by the way) stuck around after we found that his AE's were defective. He even pitched in, as you can see in the picture. Some special shout-outs here to a few folks. Of course to "lighting guru" David who allowed us to overrun his house and showed us all how to remove, disassemble, assemble and install these headlights over and over. Another big thanks to Dan (dcrane) and Robert (RGO115) for brining beverages and snacks. We would have not survived without them.

Here's some general info for you guys. Henry had the AE's sold by goodstuff4u on eBay. They were the ones with the tabs that I sent back, and the same as the ones that Ed keeps breaking (easy there, big fella). Turns out Henry had a bad ballast and a bad ring. After seeing how good the other rings looked (mine and Farhod's) I'd recommend going with the ones that we used. I got mine from 2004momo on ebay.

Another thing to note. On my 99 I installed the AE's behind the lenses, while we mounted them on the front of the lenses on Farhod's 98 (I think a 98). On the 99 the rings fit much better on the back, only requiring snipping out a small section of the cross bar. On the 98 they fit much better on the front, mounting flat and looking good. We grounded each ballast next to the light, and ran the power all the way around to the connection box by the passenger firewall. We tapped into one of the two red/white wires shown in the picture (at my fotki link). Both were live in key position #2 and turned off after 5-10 seconds after turning off the key (Farhod's stayed on longer than mine for some reason). I think that's it...now for the pictures.

First, here is the link to all 25 pictures I took.

Here are some select photos.

Here's David drying his car when I got there at 9:30. I've not seen a better use for a leaf blower..ever!

Here are my AE's mounted on the back of my lenses. They are attached with waterproof marine silicone.

Say hello to, from the left, Kromdom (Romeo), dcrane, Henry (in the back) and dcrane II (not a BMW owner...yet!)

Here's Robert (RGO115) on the left

Here are 04shdd, Farhad and Henry checking out the rear of Farhad's 740. The gentleman on the right is Farhad's cousin

To say that we had David's driveway and street clogged with e38's is an understatement.

Here's Farhod cleaning his yellowed lenses with PlastX. I tell you, that stuff did an incredible job! They really turned out nice after just a couple of minutes of polishing.

Here's Henry lending a hand with running wires. I guess the good news for Henry is that he got some hands-on experience on someone else's lights so he's ready for his own when the new AE's come in.

Here's one of my lights with the AE's on. Remember, mine are mounted behind the lenses, unlike Farhod's which are mounted in front.

Here's Farhod's car finished. These lights look badass!

Here's my car finished. Hey Robert...no stealing Mike's e38!
