If this helps, the default, un-coded, out-of-the-box configuration of a brand new ULF supports voice recognition. In the European market, BMW will install the ULF and then code it to disable the voice recognition. It is the opposite in the US. Here, BMW will install it and may not code it at all.

I have a ULF still in its default state. It would be nice if there was some kind of "reset to defaults" command you could issue, then that would probably re-enable the voice recognition.

Most of the folks in the US probably have working VR. I had one without that I bought from a guy in the UK. So, the best place to find a volunteer with a non-working VR ULF would be from Europe (or from someone in the US who bought theirs from Europe).
